Haverstick helps boost IT power for Cummins engineers
The Client Cummins Inc., a Fortune 300 company and a global leader in engines, power generation, and other businesses
The Challenge Cummins’ Engineering Information Services (EIS) group supports the information needs of about 2,000 users in the company’s six engineering facilities. They contacted Haverstick about architecting and managing the deployment of a single NT domain. Cummins needed the focus to be on reliability, extensibility, manageability, and supportability of the LAN servers and desktop systems.
The Haverstick Approach Haverstick focused on having two primary data centers for EIS. Each housed multiple domain controllers, an application/Web server, and multiple Citrix servers. Each of the six facilities housed redundant print servers. Sun Solaris cluster servers attached to hierarchical storage systems were deployed to provide virtually unlimited file storage space. Haverstick also design numerous sub-projects to support the LAN infrastructure.
To roll out the project quickly with minimal resources, Haverstick developed a unique way to automate the installation of the NT desktops and a standard set of core application software. The implementation was delegated to roving teams, which made the task quick, efficient, and easy for the support staff to manage.
The Result EIS was able to achieve great increases in efficiency. Haverstick’s work helped the group achieve a solution that was easy to install and update and allowed it to consolidate and share support staff from all six facilities—greatly reducing total cost of ownership. |
