Haverstick Consulting leads complex training design, development, and delivery using Haverstick’s Blended Learning Methodology
The Client A national printing-paper distributor, packaging supplies and equipment, facility supplies, and graphic imaging prepress supplies and equipment, with 125 wholesale distribution centers and 200 stores; approximately $7 billion in annual sales
The Challenge The client needed a service partner to lead the development and implementation of ERP training and performance support over a two-year period.
The Learning Solution included the following components:
- Solution analysis—An examination of learning needs, audience characteristics, existing materials and technology, and an initial solution design
- Task analysis and prioritization—Detailed inventory of all system tasks, prioritized by frequency, difficulty, and criticality
- Custom courseware—Web-based training, instructor-led distance learning, self-study, and collaborative learning guides
- Custom learning management system—Registration, testing, and course evaluation
- Launch management—Support and management of training delivery
- Knowledge transfer—Support to enable the client to deliver and maintain training
The client wanted to reduce operating costs and increase efficiency by reducing the number of ERP systems from nine to three. Two of the new systems required users to change from an existing system. In order to support this migration, end-users needed training with the new systems.
The Haverstick Approach Haverstick began this project with a full understanding of the client’s business objectives. Haverstick then adapted, applied, and executed the Blended Learning Methodology to support the client’s unique challenges.
Using the Blended Learning Methodology, Haverstick managed, designed, developed, implemented, and evaluated all aspects of the learning and performance support for two of the targeted ERP systems.
By applying this methodology, Haverstick was able to successfully manage the project from conception to completion—both on time and on budget.
Haverstick’s Blended Learning approach included the following:
- An adaptable approach to designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating learning and performance support tools across an enterprise
- Focus on end-user acceptance along with building skills and abilities to ensure the adoption of new systems, processes, and policies
- Scalable and flexible learning delivery based on a balanced instructional-design approach
- Training and support based on rigorous task and content analysis and subject matter expert inclusion
- Integration with existing training personnel to blend teams and provide knowledge transfer and self-sufficiency
- Alignment with the organization’s existing learning strategy
- Immediate feedback from students on training delivery through online surveys
The Result The client is meeting cost reduction goals and business objectives by successfully training employees in the two new ERP applications.
- Successful system conversions have enabled employees to do their jobs and support customers after cutover.
- System conversion timelines were met due to a distributed training model where instructors in one location train students in many locations.
- The client is now able to deliver subsequent training events independently.
- The training development schedule was shortened to support conversion schedules and enterprise requirements.
- The client has the ability to reapply the training tools and model across the enterprise.
