The Client A major international law firm
The Challenge The client decided to implement Plumtree Portal to serve both internal users and existing clients. Immediately, the client uncovered challenges as to how to integrate Plumtree into the existing infrastructure, make it available internally and via Internet, and maintain security of the firm’s intellectual capital.
The Haverstick Approach Haverstick’s infrastructure experts worked with the client to develop detailed requirements for security, availability, support, integration, and budget. Before the team began focusing on the technical solution, formal objectives and key success criteria were established that would allow the client to clearly gauge the project’s success.
Early on, the Haverstick team decided to partition the functional components of Plumtree on multiple servers. This would optimize each platform for its specific function and allow for future vertical and horizontal scalability. By front-ending the Web site with proxy servers, the Haverstick solution allowed Internet users to access the portal without a direct connection to the internal network. Haverstick also implemented a number of solutions to handle availability and real-time monitoring requirements.
The Result The Plumtree Portal infrastructure was implemented in just nine weeks, successfully leveraging the firm’s existing infrastructure and standard data backup solution. This greatly reduced the implementation cost and time frame. Most important, the firm now had a secure way to provide access to its intellectual capital to existing clients via the Internet. |
