Haverstick Consulting helps state agency upgrade Strategic Mail platform
The Challenge The agency was using Microsoft Exchange 5.5 to provide mail services to 10,000 plus employees. However, it was looking to migrate to Exchange 2000 to gain the performance, stability, and administration benefits that the platform provides.
The Approach Haverstick Consulting reviewed the agency’s needs (as well as the state of Indiana as a whole) in conjunction with the state’s central IT organization. Haverstick determined that the agency’s Exchange 5.5 system would be the one upgraded in the statewide Forest. This would allow the agency to directly upgrade to Exchange 2000, as well as allow the remainder of the state’s 20,000 employees to migrate to a single enterprise e-mail platform.
The Solution Haverstick worked in conjunction with the client to establish the Exchange 2000 infrastructure, consisting of front-end OWA and public folder servers. Next, Haverstick managed the deployment of the Active Directory Connector to synchronize the agency’s Exchange 5.5 directory with Active Directory. Lastly, Haverstick consolidated the existing Exchange infrastructure onto four SAN-attached, 8-processor Exchange 2000 servers, each hosting close to 2,000 mailboxes.
The Result Haverstick completed the migration in four months, with the agency gaining the benefits of a truly statewide e-mail system that is highly scalable, highly recoverable, very user-friendly, and much easier to administer. |
